Winterfun

Well, the holidays came and went in a blur, and here we are on January 7 and I'm just now planning on sending out Happy New Year cards. We spent a pre-Xmas weekend in Janesville, Xmas in Elkhart and a rockin' New Year's Eve in Madison this year.

Highlights around here mostly revolve around lots of snow that came just before Christmas, which has stayed around until now. After the storm we had, the neighborhood was able to create the annual homemade ice rink on the park across the street from us. It's pretty amazing - white lights are strung up for ambiance, and a high-powered bulb lights the rink at night. There's no pond there; it's just made from hosing water out over a huge shoveled area, and it's maintained by a scheduled rotation of neighbors who move the hose from place to place. I love it because it feels like an embrace of winter. Sylvie is very into hockey and pucks and likes to slide on the ice (in boots) and kick a puck around. Uncle Carl also gave her some hockey sticks, and she has been honing her skills with those as well.

Kyle has been in Utah for 5 days for a parolympic event at Soldier Hollow and hopefully he'll write a story a two about that here. It sounds like it's been a wonderful trip.

Favorite hairband. She accepts no help from anyone in putting these on, obvs.

Sylvie and I have been for 2 skis together so far. That Chariot was an excellent investment. The only problem is that she falls asleep during the ski and that shrinks her nap later in the day to a mild snooze. I don't know exactly how to solve this problem.

Snow time.

The ice rink at night, after a particularly snowy day.

Skating in Elkhart with HP, Adrian and Gene! They are so darn cute.

Carl found an old wetsuit in Elkhart and had to try it on. Then I had to post it here.

Shoveling the sidewalk. A very serious worker.
