Ski time

Our Steamboat vacation was wonderful. Some of our best times were out on skis, on the slopes and on the trails. We found a baby sitter for 2.5 of the days that we were there, so Kyle and I got to do some nordic skiing by ourselves (!) at the Steamboat Ski Touring Center and we downhill skied with my parents and Carl as well.

Steamboat got a ton of snow during our first couple days there, and our last three days were cold and clear with bright sun and bluebird skies. Carl rode his board, and Kyle and I broke out our tele skis, which hadn't seen the light of day in many seasons. We ached at the end of each ski day, but it felt great to be out on the mountain.

Our visit coincided with a visit for Kathleen Hurley as well, so we got to ski with her and her brother Patrick. It was sweet to catch up with her. She just got back from six weeks of shipwreck removal work in the Palmyra Atoll and it was fascinating to hear about her experience. Seeing her also hurt a little bit, as it reminded us, yet again, of all the good people we have back in Seattle.

Kyle photobombing my parents photo. My dad wore his lift ticket from Steamboat/Mt Werner Ski Resort from 1965 in addition to his current ticket and got lots of attention from the gondola lift ops.

In addition to getting ourselves out on skis, we got Sylvie out on her new nordic skis for her first time as well! She was a champ. She shuffled along, went down and up some hills, fell down, and got back up again. We were so proud.

Sam came along on those nordic ski days as well, strapped in the Ergo to either mama or Daddy. I can't say how much he liked it, but we were happy to get him some fresh air too.
