A photogenic loop

Day 4: Brighton State Park to Brighton State Park (a 73 mile loop, via Island Pond, Norton, Canaan, and Bloomfield). After the ride, Jay and Kyle rode into Island Pond to pick up food for dinner, while Caro and I swam and lounged on the beach, so they get credit for 6 miles more. Chapeau!

We woke relatively early, and enjoyed watching the mist (condensation or evaporation?) over Spectacle Pond from our campsite, completed by a loon and her baby. Ted arrived after our breakfast, coming to our rescue with a wheel that I could swap out and use for the rest of our trip. Because we were doing a loop, we got to ride unloaded, aside from our super-useful but relatively nerdy front bike bags. We felt so light on the road! And we stayed on pavement all day, which also made the miles go much more quickly.

This may have been our most beautiful day of riding. I couldn't stop taking pictures. We rode along the Canadian border, and then down into the Connecticut River valley.  We had a lovely lunch on the town green in Canaan and stopped for a dip in the river on the New Hampshire side. We saw all kinds of signs of moose, and spent the whole time riding through prime habitat, but did not see any actual moose. We were, however, buzzed by a huge bald eagle that took off right above our heads. Upon seeing it, Ted exclaimed, "Put that in your journal!" So I am!

  1. Loving all your pics and posts of the trip! The CT river valley is so beautiful. It's making me homesick for VT, in a good way.
