Halloween

Halloween is a great holiday. I loved it when I was a kid (dressing up), a high schooler (going out and causing mischief) and a college student and beyond (dressing up). Now I get to love it all over again, living it alongside a little one.

We started celebrating a couple weeks ago, carving pumpkins. Sylvie was at first suspicious of the slimy pumpkin innards, but soon got into it. And she has always been enthusiastic about seeds of all kinds (as well as pits and cores) so this fell right into her wheelhouse. We remembered last year when she was still small enough to stand in the pumpkin we had carved. Not so anymore!

During the weekend before Halloween, our neighborhood had a big Halloween parade and pizza party in the park. It was super well-organized and tons of people showed up. We invited Sylvie's BFF, Yannick, and his parents, to celebrate with us. Yann went as a panda and Sylvie was an alligator.

During the group photo, there was a fair amount of shock and awe for the toddlers in the group. Sylvie sat there with that perplexed look on her face while we snapped photos.

This is the larger group - it was chaos, and lots of fun.

I didn't document Sylvie all that well in her full suited-up alligator glory, but she did tolerate the hood for awhile and it was overwhelmingly adorable. She particularly liked to bite on her alligator tail.

On Halloween night, we stayed home and gave candy to trick or treaters. Once she understood the process, Sylvie got gleeful when the doorbell rang. She loved helping to answer the door, listening to the kids say "trick or treat" and watching them pick out candy. Since Halloween, she's been walking around with a bowl of the leftover candy saying "treeeeat"? It's pretty great.
