Sylvie is aware that there is a baby in my belly. She sometimes puts a stuffed animal under her shirt and says she has a baby in her belly too. She named the baby in her belly Dodo, and the baby in my belly Ray Ray. Sometimes these names change so that she is carrying Ray Ray and I'm carrying Dodo. Sometimes she talks to Dodo (in my belly), asking it "You like pink, Dodo?" or "You thirsty, Dodo?" When we deem a particular item of her clothing too small, she announces that Dodo will wear it someday.
She knows that I take 2 vitamins each day. One for me and one for Dodo/Ray Ray. She knows she is supposed to be careful of my belly, and not jump on it or bounce off it. She knows that the baby is getting bigger an will eventually come out, making her a big sister. She has no idea of the impact this baby will have on her life.
For my part, I've been feeling pretty good physically. As is to be expected, I'm much less aware of this pregnancy, aside from when I try to bend over to pick something up or catch glance of my body profile reflected off a glass window. I'm about 31 weeks pregnant now, which is so hard to believe! I was running up until about a month ago, but now I'm counting a yoga class or a walk as a fitness win.
The other night, I went with my friend Jessica, who is a radiologist and also pregnant, to the hospital where she works, so we could look at the fetuses inside us. It was pretty amazing to see an ultrasound of this little one who is so far along in the development process, jam packed inside me, moving, swallowing, and growing. The photo here shows a little bum, and also gives up the gender, though this is not the most explicit photo that I took of that area. I also saw the brain, kidneys, stomach, spine, heart, lungs, bladder, little face, hands and feet. I know we know how all of this happens, but it still feels like a bit of a miracle. I look forward to welcoming this little being into the world in a a couple months.
