As I've mostly skipped over the winter this year, I haven't shared any ski pictures from the mountains this year. So here are a few of them. We've done more downhill skiing this winter than we have since the kids came along. All school-age kids in Colorado get free passes, and Kyle and I had passes too, so that enabled us.
Sam's first downhill experience was at Steamboat, over the week of Christmas. He and I skied Why Not, which feels like a 5-mile cat track down the entire mountain. Probably should have started on a shorter run. He skis between my legs, and I squat around him, with my poles in front of his chest. It took us both some time to get used to this situation, but by now, he really likes it. And he really likes going on trails through the trees. He sings and hums as we move down the mountain, which I love.
Both kids especially like the chairlifts. I have deep anxiety about having the kids on the lifts, but the bar that comes down puts me more at ease.
Sylvie skills have really improved this year and she announces that she likes nordic and downhill skiing, but she likes downhill "just a tiny bit more." She did one lesson, but generally just got better by skiing with us.
Spring skiing has been excellent, because it's so warm and sunny. Powered by a few Starbursts and snacks, the kids can stay out all day long.
