Sylvie and I went to the UW arboretum today and it felt like Fall! Crisp air, red leaves, dry switch grass. I love the seasonal change and it's fun to experience it again.
I'm also ringing in the new season by trying out a new sport. I've always been curious about cyclocross and found out there are Wednesday night rides at a park not far from our house. Cyclocross involves riding around on a dirt trail and jumping off your bike to carry it over small gates before jumping back on to ride some more. Riders basically gather at the park and then launch off to do 3 sets of 3 runs around the track created for that night's meetup. I do not have photo documentation of this experience because, well, I'm busy while I'm there and it would be embarrassing to show myself in second-to-last place battling it out with a older, somewhat overweight guy. But the outings have been lots of fun and it feels great to be on the bike doing something beside riding to work. I've always been too cautious for serious mountain biking, but I'm really enjoying this. Plus, there are all levels of riders at these Wednesday night gatherings, so I actually don't feel too slow in the mix.
In other news, Baby G has got a bunch of chompers coming in. She officially has six teeth now, in various stages of growth. Most of them seem to have been non-issues in terms of pain, but her latest front tooth has been accompanied by a little blister on her gum, which must be painful even though she doesn't seem too fussy about it. This pic shows a couple of her top teeth, if you look closely.
